The resources available below are useful guidance for working with all children, but are specifically important when supporting those with socio-communication issues, including Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Makaton Training

Makaton Training in Venues E-MAK

The Makaton Beginners Workshop (Stages 1 & 2 and Stages 3 & 4) continue to run across the county on a rolling programme, taking place in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft, and Stowmarket. Please use course code E-MAK to search on cpdonline. Places are limited to two practitioners per setting and it is recommended that the keyperson and Senco attend these trainings and then cascade the information back to their staff. The Beginners workshop is no longer available as an in-setting training as the vast majority of settings have received this in the last 8 years.

Makaton In Practice in-setting E-MIP

Settings can request the in-setting training Makaton In Practice, course code E-MIPinsetting. This training is designed to help practitioners refresh and revise their knowledge of Makaton and to identify useful vocabulary for individual children and to practise everyday applications e.g. as part of the routine, at snack times, story times, during activities.

The below staff meeting revision plan has been created to support teams where staff or the majority or staff have already accessed Makaton training, but require specific revision and planning activities to enhance the visual communication support in the setting.
